Anyone Got Their Taxpayer Stimulus Payout Yet?

Published by Lis Sowerbutts at 9:57 am under Australia News Edit This

Has anyone got their stimulus payout  from the Australian government for those who earned less than $80,000 last year?

I’m just wondering because the news media has gone real quiet on it! Originally the Sunday paper’s thought that it might be in people’s bank accounts on Monday 6 April. The local appliance stores were running “stimulus sales” on Tuesday - but I don’t think anyone was buying because the ATO website is saying payments from Wed 8 April.

But probably more relevantly they are also saying don’t call the ATO about payments before the 16 May - I figure its going to take a while to process all those millions of transactions. Especially with this week being a short week and a 4 day bank holiday weekend due to Easter.

I think for most people Easter bunny isn’t coming early. I haven’t got my $900 payment from the Rudd government yet and neither has my partner. We both should get paid direct to a bank account which is obviously way faster than dealing with checks and mail delays.

Maybe the payouts will be sent out alphabetically - damme as I am an “S” and my partner “M”. Or maybe they will start with the East coast - and we are in Perth! So who has had their taxpayer related payout yet? Leave a comment below - maybe add your city and the first letter of your surname to so we can figure out the pattern to this - if there is one!

Hello, I haven’t received mine yet and I’ve been waiting patiently here in Indonesia (currently overseas). My surname is Barnes, so if it’s alphabetically, mine should turn up soon. :P But I highly doubt that they’re processing it alphabetically. And I reside in Sydney. Will keep you updated and I hope it turns up soon because I’ve got bills to pay.

By the way, I heard from a friend, that the govt was sending out the payment, progressively? Meaning, bits by bits, rather than $900 altogether. Is this correct?

    Cheers!

I’m in South Australia and should get mine electronically. My 2007/2008 tax return was also done promptly through e-tax, should it shouldnt be to hard for the ATO to figure out I am legible.

It is Saturday the 11th of April and I have still not recieved my payment. I heard a rumour they are paying by postcode? But I am unsure about this.

I have also heard that alot of parents who get part-pension recieved their stimulus last week.

I am single and a tax payer and find it strange that single tax payers arent given priority - especially when the Rudd government claim they want us to “stimulate the economy”, surely single tax payers who dont have kids to feed and loads of bills to pay would be the ones to count on to do this?

    I haven’t got mine yet…

I heard someone say that it will go in the order of tax returns filed but not entirely sure on that. My surname starts with B and I’m on the east coast :)

Will let you know when I get it!

Hey, I live in NSW and last name ends with G and my partner is an E. We haven’t recieved it yet either. I’m sick of these adds telling me to spend it this long weekend! I haven’t got it! *S* I have no idea how long it will take but with everyday I get more and more worried that it ain’t coming. The ATO says to wait until the 16th so I guess there’s no need to panic yet… right? *S*

No not yet. I was wondering if one recieves the austudy bonus but also paid tax. Does one recieve two payments?

  9. chickydeeon 15 Apr 2009 at 11:01 am edit this

According to the ATO if you lodged your tax return & had to PAY tax you will be getting the money BUT if you lodged a return & were given money back after paying tax you will NOT be getting this payout.

  10. Lis Sowerbuttson 15 Apr 2009 at 4:23 pm edit this

Sorry for the delay in approving comments I’ve been away!
@chickydee - you may have overpaid tax and got a refund last year but so long as you did in fact pay tax ie earned around $11k you are eligible.
To be honest I doubt that its by postcode as that would put an unreasonable burden on AusPost.

And no I haven’t got mine or my partner’s yet - the ATO is saying don’t call until the 15 May so I guess that’s the time frame

I live in Toowong Brisbane, me and my two house mates still havent got ours yet, mine was ment to be a check and the other were ment to be straight to their acounts.

Someone said “BUT if you lodged a return & were given money back after paying tax you will NOT be getting this payout.”
    Is that true????

  17. AMYon 17 Apr 2009 at 7:52 am edit this

NO! THIS IS NOT TRUE. You may have gotten some cash back when you did your tax return, but you would of, in turn, had to pay tax during the year. If you paid tax - THIS ENTITLES YOU TO THE STIMULUS PAY OUT..! Yay….. Havent received mine, My last name starts witha J and first with an A. Going direct to bank account. Its now the 17th April and Im gagging…!!!!!!

    Lilyruth -

Instead of doing stimulus checks this year, the US government has reduced federal income tax withholdings. This means more money in your pocket now.

My 40-hour, 2-week paychecks used to be $478, and now they are $504. Which I think I like better, because putting $600 in my hands all at once, it never seems to stretch as far or as long as I hope.

My tax return next year will be smaller though, so I think I am going to fill out a new W4 and have an additional $5 a week or so withheld every week. I won’t really miss it now, and I sure will be next spring if I don’t pay in enough to get some back…

I believe it is just a postcode lottery. Its actually wise as there have been a lot of situations where those ATM theft swipers have been found, just seems very coincidential that those theft devices popped up when they knew every single taxpaying Australian would be getting some cash put in their account…

Hey my surname starts with E and Im from Newcastle similar postcode to the person a few above. Havent recieved mine yet. Getting over it pretty quickly. There are all these stores around with stimulus sales but no one to actually take advantage of it. They need to spread it a bit more evenly as they claim to be spreading it evenly around each state but clearly not every part of each state. the closest person I know to the Necastle area who has got it is in Dubbo I think the postcode was 3890 or something of the like. No one I know anywhere in the Newcastle area has recieved it yet either. I think it has been handled very poorly. They say because of the amount of people recieving the bonus that they had to do it this way. But I ask you does Centrelink not pay thousands apon thousands of benefits each day and their system handles it why cant the ATO? I bet the first “RANDOMLY” chosen postcodes where all in Canberra… and the then wherever else politicians reside. All the Centrelink bonus were paid out in 2 weeks yet everyone else could have to wait up to 6 weeks for theirs. ???? I know why this is… it is because they know that people on benefits are more likely to spend their bonus on crap, hence they stimulate the economy more. Whereas the hard working Aussies are more likely to spend theirs on bills and then maybe get one or two things for themselves. I know that most of mine is going on bills and then I’m gonna treat myself to an Ipod. Oh and replace the tv in my bedroom that exploded about a month ago. Good luck everyone… hope you have more luck than I.

  28. Lis Sowerbuttson 21 Apr 2009 at 8:50 am edit this

Yup I bet the shops who ran stimulus sales did pretty bloody badly! Centrelink already has systems in place to pay pay their “payroll” every week or whatever it is - that’s not quite the same with ATO - and its a LOT more payments - we have a lot more taxpayers than beneficiaries still.
Can I suggest you look at other mp3 players not just the iPod - they don’t have radios you know and cost a lot compared to other players

  29. PerthChickon 21 Apr 2009 at 3:46 pm edit this

My last name starts with an ‘E’ and I live in Perth, a few od my mates have got it but i’m still waiting!
I cant believe centrelink ppl are getting $1400 and they dont work! and the hard workers in australia get a crappy $900!!! Go figure??!
Not to mention my partner works on the mines, PAYS $41,000.00 a year tax and gets a refund of $3000 if he’s lucky!!! And what does he get for paying the government $41,000 a year you ask….. the nice feeling of feeding centrelink claimers and them that dont work, who walk around the streets during the day breaking in to tax payers cars and stealing their items they worked hard for and paid for with earnt money.
Anywho - Rudd needs to sort himself out.
You cant buy love my friend.

At last! Got mine today, came through from the Accountancy I used to do my tax return, and the bank account they used at the time.

So if your bank details changed from last year, and you got another company to handle your last tax return, you might need to get in touch with them, not the tax office direct.

Our last name starts with “A” and my husband has not received his stimulus payment as of yet.

I dont know if it was sent and we just did not get it or what as sometimes we get other peoples mail and they get ours…:(

Hopefully it will come in the mail and soon. We are moving.

  33. MACEon 22 Apr 2009 at 4:15 pm edit this

I still dont have mine. and it cant be based upon postcode NOR surname, NOR tax return lodgement date. thats because my sister who lives with me and has the same surname, got it 2 weeks ago. she lodge her tax return only the week before that while i lodged mine on time last year.

    maybe its random based.

My partner and I have not received ours either. Around half of our friends have just gotten theirs. I am hearing the rumours that it’s postcode related, but that doesn’t seem to be true, as some of my friends are interstate. My guess is that the ATO must have some sort of system in place, but I don’t think it’d be logical if it was totally random. There has to be some sort of system in place.

We are in Moonah in Tasmania P/C 7009.

My initials are JL and her’s is NB.

Live in Brisbane, 4007, and just got mine this morning. Definitely not by surname as I only know one other person who’s got theirs, she’s F…, and I’m S…, and friends Loyd L… and F…. haven’t got theirs yet. It might be order of tax return as I was pretty prompt with mine. There must be some system for it, I can’t imagine they’d do it randomly.

  37. Lis Sowerbuttson 24 Apr 2009 at 11:14 am edit this

I guess the people who have received payment won’t be posting here because they won’t be googling to see if they are the last person waiting for a tax payment - personally I’m still waiting over in Perth!

  38. D&Jon 24 Apr 2009 at 10:44 pm edit this

No, we haven’t received ours yet but my husband hasen’t received his backpay for S.S. disabilty either even though the lawyer got his pay from them out of the money that my husband was awarded which is just fine ,but we have bills that need paid, our house payment needs cought up before they start forcloseure. When you get down to it they don’t care when you get the money but if you owe them you had better have had it paid to them like yesterday not when you fell like paying it. will probably get the tax payment first. In either case were not holding our breath.
