Australia Movie: Oprah Likes It - Will the Rest of America?

Published by Lis Sowerbutts at 3:56 pm under Australia News Edit This

A nice shiny free Australia 2009 Calendar featuring Nicole Kidman and Huge Jackman, with today’s paper. Australia’s publicity machine is ramping up here in the eponymously (always wanted to use that word) country! The stories are all feel good down under. How tiny Kununurra is rolling out the red carpet over the red dust of the open air for their big Australia movie premier. The ads are rolling on prime time TV.

Then there is the other side of the story. Rumours are that the movie may be a box office disaster with squabbles between Baz Luhrmann and 20th Century Fox management over the length of the movie and even its ending and the ABC reporting that Baz Luhrmann is struggling to complete the Australia movie ’s final version before next week’s world premier in Sydney.

Well I don’t think so - and no I unfortunately I am yet to see the movie. I am only going on someone’s opinion who has seen the movie - and Oprah loved Australia - “Was that a movie” she repeated over and over! She and her audience loved the movie and in fact dedicated a whole show to the movie complete with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman as guests. Even Oprah Winfrey hasn’t seen the final version, in fact one suspects it may change again between this week’s official premier and Australia hitting the movie screens of Australia and the US which won’t be until 26 November.

Well if I was betting I’d be betting on Australia after Oprah Winfrey’s enthusiasm - after all she got the call on Barack Obama for winning the election. The most powerful influencer in the US today says a movie is going to be a success - I think Oprah could have got the call on the Australia Movie right as well.

Reports are that Baz Luhrmann wrote 6 endings and shot 3. Does Hugh Jackman’s character survive? No one is saying though a apparently there is a twist!

I think it will be very interesting to see how Americans react to the movie - I’m curious as to how they deal with the black characters - its such a huge mainly unexplored issue in Australia Hugh Jackman BTW, originally it was supposed to be Russell Crowe - but he wanted too much money - Jackman is new to me but having seen the publicity shots I rather like him minus the shirt - can he act LOL

“I haven’t been this excited about a movie since I don’t know when.

This is the best movie I have seen in a long, long, long, long time.

Was that a movie? (audience go into affirmative hysterics)
    Was that a movie?
    Was that a movie?

I mean they just don’t make movies like that anymore, they really don’t.”

Thanks for dropping by Oprah - not maybe the most in depth movie review I have ever seen but I gather you like it!
